Foxton Locks and the Inclined Plane
| |
The Foxton Locks staircase - 10 locks in all - drops the canal 75 feet down a hill. Also at this site is the Inclined Plane - which was used for a dozen years or so,
but sadly closed in 1910. This engineering marvel raised and lowered boats in caissons up and down the hill in a fifth of the time it took to use the locks.
